Leica GG04 Plus Smart Antenna, iOS, Android and Windows

Leica’s Zeno GG04 Smart Antenna has been designed to bring centimetre-accurate positioning to consumer smart devices, which can be power by Android, Windows or Apple iOS.

The robust Leica GG04 antenna measures 186mm in diameter and 71mm in height. It weighs 0.8kg including the changeable battery, which lasts for 8 to 10 hours. It is rated IP68 water-resistant; that allows for operation under rainy conditions.

Accessories include a carrying case, the battery charger, a two-meter range pole that can be screwed into the antenna and mounting brackets for the tablet.Leica provides the ‘Zeno Connect’ for connecting a 3rd party mapping application like the ESRI ArcGIS Online Collector solution to the GG04. The application is freely available from the Google Play or the Apple Store. As for Windows, there is a fee for the perpetual software license.

As a standard, Zeno Connect works by replacing all of the phone’s internal GPS measurements with the measurements from the antenna. This happens as a background service, meaning that existing apps do not have to be modified. The smartphone and antenna are connected via Bluetooth. The Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) provider has to be set in the application. Zeno Connect can receive RTK correction data via internet, radio or from a beacon.

We propose Smartnet Australia positioning service (Smartnet Aus) as correction data provider. After entering the RTK server credentials, the app shows the current GPS accuracy in the phone’s notification area.
