View our Product SolutionsThe building construction industry is experiencing a digital transformation. Companies that embrace new technologies, tools, digital workflows and data centric strategies see an improvement in project and business outcomes.
1970s In the 1970s, construction professionals primarily used paper documents and manual calculations to communicate. This meant physically delivering blueprints, drawings, and other construction documents.
1980s With the advent of computers, construction professionals began to use electronic computer based tools to communicate and transfer information. This included email and basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
1990s The 1990s saw the widespread adoption of project management software, which allowed construction professionals to collaborate and share information electronically.
2000s In the 2000s, construction professionals began to use building information modeling (BIM) software, which allowed them to create digital models of buildings and other structures. This helped to improve collaboration and reduce errors.
2010s In the 2010s, the use of mobile devices and cloud-based tools became more widespread in the construction industry. This allowed professionals to access and share information from anywhere, at any time
Now Today, construction professionals use a variety of digital tools to communicate and transfer information, including project management software, BIM software, mobile apps, and cloud-based tools. These technologies are now integrated into onsite robotics and digital verification tools that allow for real-time collaboration & increased productivity.

What our customers say
“In years gone by, we have always been focused on using paper plans. Recently we have noticed a shift in the marketplace. there is a drive towards BIM modelling… Within fifteen minutes of seeing the iCON iCR70, we were impressed with how intuitive and user-friendly it was to use and were comfortable this was the digital solution we needed.”
Ashley Moran, Ashmor Plumbing
“One of our recent projects, we estimated that it would have taken two people four days via traditional methods to layout our ductwork on-site, but with the iCR70 (Leica Total Station), we were able to complete that work in one day with one person via digital layout.”
Matt Payne, PJM Engineering
“Since purchasing our Leica iCON iCR70 we have been surprised by the increase in the accuracy and speed by which we can set out, install, check, and plot our below ground plumbing installations. No more relying on Builders set outs, tripping on string lines or broken tape measures. With the iCON technology we have streamlined the whole Set Out and As Built process to a simple, one person operation that is both extremely accurate and quick. Couple this with the amazing aftersales and technical support offered by C.R Kennedy, I have no hesitation in recommending these units to anyone wanting to get with the times”
Tyson Knight, Jones Doyle Plumbing
“Since using the Leica iCON I have found it easy to transition from the TS16 etc. format/style of software that I learnt on in my early days of Surveying. In terms of conducting a survey setout, especially complex structures, the IFC capability is unrivalled. It allows me to visualise what I'm setting out as compared to having data lines & points imported from with no relevance without having to check back to plans. If the install teams asks for something specific e.g a location of a particular bolt, I can easily find it on the model and set it out immediately.
On many occasions when I'm on-site and our install team will ask me to give them a centre line of a beam, or say, a position of an already manufactured segment of the beam e.g. a welded cleat, to help them align as they're craning/lifting up a large beam, which is information you wouldn't usually have readily available. Whenever I've had a question, simple or complex, I've been able to contact Alex at CR Kennedy for an immediate response or within a pretty short time frame. It's been a great resource to have especially when you're a solo surveyor like me.”
David Lewis, FABCON Structural
“I have been utilising the Leica iCON Total Station for approximately three years while working on-site. Having worked with other brands in the past, I find the Leica system to be user-friendly and easy to grasp. Over the last six months, I have been closely collaborating with the CR Kennedy team, who possess extensive knowledge and understanding of our company's technological needs in the construction industry. They have proven to be at the forefront of promoting advanced technology within our business. The support provided by CR Kennedy, particularly through Alex Richardson, their Building Construction Consultant, has been exceptional in terms of responsiveness and attention to detail. Alex has been immensely helpful to me since I joined Digimech. On one occasion, during a job in Morwell, he remotely accessed my tablet and guided me through troubleshooting a problem that I was struggling to resolve. Not only does Alex exhibit exceptional patience with his customers, but he also demonstrates a profound level of knowledge and understanding. Having the support of CR Kennedy makes the utilisation of the Leica iCON system effortless and wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
