The integration between the Leica Geosystems BLK360 and the Matterport platform is relevant to a wide variety of industries, especially in the residential and commercial real estate as well as AEC markets. For example, in commercial real estate you can engage decision makers and add critical value to the buying/leasing process with dimensionally accurate 3D walkthroughs.
The partnership between Leica Geosystems and Matterport is focused on integrating the Leica BLK360 imaging laser scanner and Matterport’s cloud-based platform, combining the power of the BLK360 and the simplicity of the Matterport cloud platform. The interoperability of the BLK360 and Matterport's reality capture platform provides users an easy-to-use solution that can be used by anyone, anywhere, bringing a new means of delivering immersive 3D content.
CR Kennedy Building Construction in partnership with 360Victoria set out to demonstrate the integration of this technology recently, with the capture of the Basketball Victoria Knox Basketball Centre.
The BLK360 was used to capture externals in direct sunlight, as well as the larger spaces within the stadium. The results speak for themselves.
Scanning commenced in the mid morning for the externals with the BLK360 and continued into the interior spaces using a combination of both instruments.
The blue circles indicate a Matterport Pro2 camera, and the green squares the BLK360 scanner.
Matterport then provide the Matterpak for the space (usual cost US$49), which contained both .OBJ files and .XYZ point clouds.
The point cloud file was processed in Autodesk Recap Pro and maintained both the rich imagery (RGB) and 3D point data.
CK Kennedy Building Construction would like to thanks Mark Berends from 360Victoria and Matterport for the provision of the Matterpak, as well as Basketball Victoria for allowing up to publish their site.
